Mobility Issues? The Best Skip Bins for Your Needs

Skip bins are about the most straightforward way to get rid of items that are (for whatever reason) unsuitable for your standard household rubbish collection. The items might be too large to fit in a household bin, or there might simply be more items to get rid of than can be comfortably accommodated in your wheelie bin. This is why when it comes to an exhaustive clean out, it's hard to beat a skip bin.

But what about when you might have difficulty using a traditional skip bin? It might be that you have mobility issues that will prevent you from physically placing the items into the bin, or it could be that you will need to do most of the heavy lifting on your own. While calling on friends and family members for a hand might be the most logical solution, this is not always possible. So what should you do when you might have difficulty using a traditional skip bin?

A Walk-In Bin

The great thing is that there are a few types of non-traditional skip bins around that many providers will be able to deliver to your home. When you need to lug heavy items to the bin but will be doing most of the work yourself, consider renting a walk-in skip bin.

  • This essentially means that one side of the bin can be opened, and instead of needing to lift heavy items right up to the rim before they can go into the bin, you can simply carry (or drag) them inside.

  • This more precise approach also allows you to maximise the usage of space within the bin, since you don't have to roughly and loosely dump items inside.

  • Even though this type of skip bin can be easier to use than its traditional counterparts, please remember to utilise a proper lifting technique to minimise the chances of injuring yourself.

A Mobile Skip Bin

While technically speaking, all skip bins need to be portable, there is a specific type of bin designed for its mobility. This can be highly beneficial if you should have mobility issues that would make it difficult for you to carry items all the way outside to wherever a traditional skip bin might have been deposited, even though you are still fully capable of taking care of much of the clean out yourself. A mobile skip bin is smaller than a traditional bin and is towed behind a truck on its own set of wheels. This means it can be backed right up to the entrance of your home (if the driveway should permit it), or even backed right into your garage.

So whether it's mobility issues or the fact that you'll need to do most of the work yourself, it's good to know there are some skip bin solutions that are perfect for the job.
